Horse girl by Terri Farley (Hardcover)

"Velma Bronn Johnston, a shy Nevada rancher left with a limp from childhood polio, became an unlikely champion for America's wild mustangs after witnessing their brutal capture for slaughter. Despite threats and ridicule, Johnston galvanized national attention, leading to the unanimous 1971 passage of legislation protecting wild horses"-- Provided by publisher.
