Gabriel García Márquez (b. 1928) was born in Aracataca, Colombia. He is the author of several novels, including _Leaf Storm_ (1955), _One Hundred Years of Solitude_ (1967), _The Autumn of the Patriarch_ (1975) _Chronicle of a Death Foretold_ (1981) and _The General in His Labyrinth_ (1989). He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1982.
